it was a good season

Well, my Cubs didn’t play so well in the postseason and didn’t make it past the first round. I think you can tell a lot about people by their reaction to this (or with any sports team in general when “your team” doesn’t do well). I’ve encountered many who are fans of other teams who have said how sorry they were and how much they were hoping this would be the year. Actually (luckily) that is the more common reaction I’ve received. It’s much more pleasant than the opposite reaction of those who would rather boast and say negative things. Sure we are all fans of whatever team we choose to support, but truly … it is a sport. Is it truly worth the negativity? I don’t think so. Although this wasn’t the year for the Cubs (and yes, it is disappointing … but it’s not the end of the world), there truly is a lot to celebrate. This was a landmark season for the Cubs and I choose to celebrate their accomplishments, of which there were many. I could list them here, but I will spare you the details. If you’re truly interested, you can google or go to their website. :)

If you’ve paid attention to the news at all, there is much doom and gloom about the economy. That R word is being tossed around. As small business owners and/or sales professionals, this is no time to simply accept defeat. It’s time to rise to the challenge. Band together with like-minded individuals and go make it happen. Whatever you choose to believe will likely determine how well your business does. If you choose to still have a successful business and adapt to the times, you will most likely do well in your venture. If you choose to simply accept that your business won’t succeed in these times … guess what? Your business will do poorly. You really CAN choose your fate in how your business will do. Which choice will you make?

I love the sharing of ideas, and I love helpful attitudes. Reaching out and talking to others who are making it happen will often result in not only new ideas, but renewed enthusiasm. If you have a mentor or know of a “go getter”, now is a good time to get in touch with them. Odds are that they will gladly share with you. Also, while you’re talking with those positive people in your life, share a recent success with them. They’ll celebrate with you, and that is a fabulous feeling.

I say this almost every week, but it’s truly critical right now. Surround yourself with positive and supportive people. Believe in yourself and your ability. Don’t subscribe to the doom and gloom or the negativity. Make the decision to succeed and go make it happen.

As the week draws to a close, I wish y’all a fabulous weekend.

(Oh, and for those of you who are local, Big Mountain Coffee has banana cake that is out of this world. They also have a new pancake breakfast on Saturday mornings, starting this Saturday, 10/11 - $5 all you can eat! Check it out!)
