Can The Bible have an influence on your success? It can if it’s Jeffrey Gitomer’s Sales Bible, the latest book by the no-nonsense, straight-shooting author, teacher and speaker. Religious overtones aside, this “Bible” is packed with hundreds of ideas from start to finish. Gitomer’s writing style is to lay it all out on the table and challenge you to do something with it. He suggests that the best uses of this book are as a resource, for daily lessons, and for immediate action. As the author points out, if you can incorporate just one new idea each day, you’ll end up with apporoximately 220 new ideas per year, or more than 1000 over 5 years. As business owners and sales professionals, we are constantly looking for new ideas, and the simpler the better. This book is packed with simple ideas, but that doesn’t mean they are easy. The great thing about this book is that the ideas are presented clearly and succinctly, meaning that a person can pick up good info by reading just a page or two. Gitomer touches on topics such as cold calling, networking, dealing with objection, and using humor. The layout of the book is unique and lends itself to those who might want to knock out a chapter at a time, rather than sitting for hours and trying to absorb all of the info and ideas at once. I also like the occasional cartoon, which matches Gitomer’s frequent use of humor to get his point across. The book is definitely recommended for those embarking on a new career in sales, but even an experienced sales professional should be able to find a wealth of new ideas. As the author points out, selling is a science, and we must continue to study it throughout our lives. One of the many quotes that I enjoyed in this book is, “You don’t get great at selling in a day. You great at selling day by day.” In addition to this book, I would also recommend visiting www.gitomer.com and registering for his weekly newsletter, Sales Caffeine. Just like this book, it’s packed with a ton of useful information to help you as you continue to chase your dreams.
