Take All the Credit (and the Blame)

When you look at people who are more successful than you, what do you think?  Do you think they got lucky, or had some unfair advantage?  Well, you might be right!  Successful people do seem to get all the breaks, as if luck follows them around.  Why is it so easy for them?  Because luck is something you make, not something you fall into.  Every person in this country has the ability to make something out of their life.  In order to accomplish anything, however, you must know what you want.  The old saying, “if you don’t know where you’re going, any map will get you there” is true.  Does it makes sense to keep shooting into the woods if you don’t know what you’re hunting?  Having a clear idea of what you want allows you to make decisions on a daily basis that will steer you closer to that destination.  The problem is, too many people are working year after year and never getting closer to their dreams.  They keep playing the lottery, waiting for luck to bail them out, and blaming everyone else for their position in life.  The truly successful ones are on a path that they mapped out and they are doing everything they can to get there in a hurry.  If you are one of those “lucky” people, congratulations and keep going!  If not, don’t blame anyone else.  Take the time today to figure out what you want out of life and then map our your route today.  Just like when you’re going on a trip, Mapquest can’t help you if you’re not sure where you’re headed.     So make your own luck by determining your destination and giving yourself credit when you get there.  Remember, if the arrow misses the target, it ain’t the target’s fault.
