How are you living?

At Wanda’s urging, I recently read The Last Lecture. I must admit this is not the kind of book I would have selected on my own. Having seen his popular online videos, I felt I had gotten the message. Then Wanda’s pursuit of the book paid off (see Wanda’s previous posts about Randy Pausch) and she gave me the book to read a couple of days later. I thought she wanted me to read it first, but as it turned out she had already finished it. Read it in one sitting. Now I don’t know much, but I know something has to be real good to keep Wanda sitting for any length of time, so I decided to see for myself. While I didn’t knock it out in one sitting, I did finish it in less than a week, which is pretty good for me. Usually a book review will tell who the book is for, but in this case it might be easier to tell you who the book is not for. It’s not for anyone who doesn’t want to live life to the fullest. It’s not for pessimistic people who look for the negative in every situation. It’s certainly not for those who want to play victim and blame their situation in life on external forces. Finally, I would not recommend this book for anyone who is depressed and wants to stay that way. Other than that, this book is a must read. If you can read this book and not be affected in a positive way, there’s something seriously wrong with you. After you finish it, share it with those you love.

And, now … an edit from Wanda. :) I’ve mentioned this in other posts about Randy, but it’s worth mentioning here with the review of this book. This book is not about dying. It’s about living, and living your life to the fullest. It’s about going for and achieving your dreams. It’s about helping others. And it’s about being a Tigger, not an Eeyore. Oh, and getting over those brick walls.

Trust me. This book will have an impact on you. Go buy it or download it. Email Alabama Booksmith to be sure it’s in stock, and when you do, tell Jake that I said hey. He will take fabulous care of you, I promise.
