Those who know me know that I record Ellen on a daily basis. They also know that I have two furry faces who run my household. Those furry faces are also kind enough to let me live in their house, sit on their couch, and sleep in their bed. Unfortunately, they also let me pay the mortgage and the bills.
I watched Friday’s Ellen show as I drank my coffee this morning and on her show was Rescue Ink, an animal rescue organization. When you see the picture of them on their site, you will quickly realize that the old saying “don’t judge a book by its cover” will come into play. They are a group of heavily tattooed men who say on their site “You take a look at us, and maybe your first reaction is to cross to the other side of the street. Just remember to look both ways before you do”.
These men have known each other for years, and individually were working to rescue animals. They love and support the effort of other organizations, but recognized that there simply weren’t enough resources to keep up with the need, so they joined forces and formed their organization. They have a different approach and go where no one else wants to go - and through their efforts between 500 - 1000 animals have been helped. They average 6 - 7 rescues per day. They turn no one away, and if they cannot help they will advise you who to contact. They take the most serious cases first and then pass others onto other rescue groups.
Mike Tattoo also shared that they believe education is key, and they will be rolling out a program to educate children about the issues of animal abuse. He believes in “good karma, good lives, live and let live”.
They dream of expanding their organization and for others to contact them to join forces because there simply “are not enough people”.
The point of this entry wasn’t only to make you aware of Rescue Ink, but it was to also use this fabulous group of men as an example of what Rob and I talk about frequently in Team Nimbus; finding a niche market and following your passion. If you follow your passion, the opportunities become endless. Think of the Les Brown quote … “Shoot for the moon. Even if you miss, you’ll land among the stars.”
And to Mike Tattoo and the rest of the guys at Rescue Ink, hats off to you!
