I posted over the weekend about Randy Pausch, and I cannot stop thinking about him. Granted, I do have personal reasons for relating to his and Jai’s story, but he has truly been a source of inspiration for me. The Last Lecture was released last week as a book, and as badly as I must have one, there is not a copy to be found in Birmingham. Surely there is ONE lone copy somewhere in town. If someone finds that one lone copy, please let me know and I will be forever indebted to you. If you haven’t checked out the post on Randy, please do. Watch the videos that are embedded in that post. I promise you will be inspired by he and his story. We talked about Randy today at our Sips for Success meeting and shared his comments about brick walls, and I had to turn it over to Rob to finish the story because I got a bit choked up. [and yes, if you find his book in Birmingham, PLEASE let me know]
Kevin, thank you again for reminding me of Randy.
A reminder that our next Sips for Success meeting will be on May 7 at 8am. We’ve had an average of 20 people at each meeting, and we have a great group of people. If you want to build relationships with a group of local business professionals, join us. It’s an informal yet informative business networking event that is held on the first and third Wednesday of each month. We look forward to seeing you at the next meeting.
April 30th is an “extra” Wednesday this month. To give our Sippers an opportunity to see each other on that extra week, Rob and I will be doing a presentation called “Making Networking Work for You”. Same time, same place … Big Mountain Coffee at 8am. The cost of admission is the price of your coffee (and breakfast, if you so choose). We hope you’ll come see us. We’ll make it worth your while.
A couple of Team Nimbus events that are upcoming:
April 24th: Building your Business by Referral, 9am - 12pm. Join us for a workshop that teaches strategies and techniques for utilizing referrals as an effective way to build your business. Learn about developing strategic alliances, developing a consistent flow of referrals, and utilizing your raving fans to grow your business … and more! Workshop cost is $49/person, or $39/person if 2 or more attend. Coffee and lunch are included in the fee.
Beginning on May 6th at 7:30am, we will begin The Rainmaker Series. This is a series of classes designed to help you become a rainmaker in your business.
What is a rainmaker?
Rainmaker (n) - someone who creates a significant amount of new business for a company; an achiever of outstanding results.
Sessions are available individually ($75), by the module (series of three sessions for $195), or by the series ($495). Group rates are also available.
For either of those learning opportunities, please see the links in the sidebar to download a registration form.
Ladies Who Lunch is hosting a Business Expo and Networking Event on April 22nd from 1-6pm (you can attend anytime during those hours) at the Pelham Civic Center. On the agenda are speakers and two sessions of open networking (1pm - 2pm and 3pm - 6pm). For non-members the cost is $5. If you’re interested in being a vendor or would like further information, contact Michelle Ashman at 862-8400.
If you are in the Helena area and are interested in local happenings, you may want to check out this fabulous blog. It’s a guaranteed good read. Thanks to Hewy for the shout-out.
A special shout-out to Chris at Big Mountain Coffee. He’s been such a gracious host for our events and he’s allowed us to make Big Mountain our second home (and our office). It’s a fabulous place. If you want to sit down with a book or some friends and a cup of coffee (the food and milkshakes are fab, too … and the Vanilla Creme Brulee coffee is my fave), Big Mountain is the place to go. They are also having Big Mountain Idol on Friday nights at 7pm. You should check it out.
Has anyone found that lone copy of The Last Lecture in Birmingham yet?
