randy pausch

We had the pleasure this week of meeting Kevin Smith of the Modern Martial Arts Institute. After attending two workshops we had, Kevin contacted us to share some links about Dr. Randy Pausch. Randy’s Pausch’s name and/or story may be familiar to you - he and his story have been seen on many television shows, most recently on a Diane Sawyer special (which I unfortunately learned about one day too late). Randy is a professor at Carnegie Mellon University and is dying from pancreatic cancer. He is an amazing man with an amazing story and is an incredible source of inspiration and learning.

Randy did a talk which is now extensively known as “The Last Lecture”. If you haven’t seen it, you should. Another fabulous talk he has done is one on Time Management. I’m sharing both of these below in this post.

For those of you who are avid readers, The Last Lecture came out as a book this past week. I plan on that book being my next purchase for me and Rob; you should as well.

The link to the time management talk was found in Randy’s journal on his website. The video is located on google’s videos, and once there I found a link to the Last Lecture video, as well as several others. They are videos you absolutely want to see.

(as a side note before we move on to the videos, if you are interested in following Randy’s progress, he does share updates about how he is doing.)

Special thanks to Kevin for reminding me of Randy Pausch, and for sharing.

Edited to add:
It’s a day after I made the post above. Rob sent me a link to the Diane Sawyer interview, and I am embedding it below. You really must watch this. It has truly touched me and made me look at and think about a lot of things in my life. It will have an impact on you, I promise.

Thank you, Randy, for your inspiration and lessons learned.
