Every person who sells a product or service knows all too well that without paying clients, life can get very stressful. Most spend their days looking for new clients or meeting with prospects to close the deal. If that deal goes through, it’s off to find the next deal. Each workday becomes a never-ending Easter Egg hunt. In order to get quicker, more consistent results, one needs to stop looking for eggs long enough to find a few Golden Geese. A Golden Goose is a referral source, someone who can send you a steady stream of clients (eggs). Top producers in almost any industry are successful because they spend their time keeping their Golden Geese fat and happy, and they don’t have to spend all their time looking for eggs. The key to finding a Golden Goose is realizing that they may or may not be in your industry. They may be former customers who are raving fans, they could be family members, and they could be your competitor. Figure out how you can serve them first, and then approach them about becoming a strategic alliance. Show them right off the bat that you are willing to help in order to get help. Most folks have a “What’s in it for me” mentality but don’t like for others to have one. Develop long-term mutually beneficial relationships and see your sales explode. Wouldn’t an Easter Egg hunt would be much easier if people brought the eggs to you? Working together as a team will produce better results than looking for eggs all by yourself.
